HOMEMADE: Lip Scrubs

Last month we made a few simple beauty products as last minute stocking stuffers.  Our friends and family absolutely loved them and it got us thinking.  Now we're challenging ourselves to include more natural homemade products in our daily lives.  And so, a new feature entitled HOMEMADE will be popping up here on the blog. We will be sharing versions of the products we love the most made right in our very own kitchens.  From beauty to cleaning products and everything in between; we'll be whipping together recipes with simple ingredients that you can feel good about using.

Below are three easy to make lip scrubs that will leave your lips feeling super soft.  Play around with the recipes and see what works best for you.  If you like your scrubs a bit more grainy: add more sugar.  If you're looking for extra moisture: add more oil.  For all scrubs, place in a sealed jar and store in your refrigerator up to two weeks.

Vanilla Chai Scrub:  1 cardamom pod  |  1 clove  |  1 teaspoon cinnamon  |  1/2 teaspoon nutmeg  |  1 teaspoon vanilla extract  |  2 tablespoons brown sugar  |  2 tablespoons coconut oil
Directions:  Crush and mix together cardamom pod, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg together before adding into mixture.

Peppermint Scrub:  2 tablespoons raw sugar  |  2 tablespoons coconut oil  |  1 teaspoon peppermint extract
Directions:  Combine ingredients and mix.

Berry Scrub + Gloss:  2 tablespoons raw sugar  |  2 tablespoons brown sugar  |  2 tablespoons coconut oil  |  1/4 cup fresh berries  | 1 tablespoon honey
Directions:  Put berries and coconut oil in food processor and blend.  Combine ingredients and mix.
