This year I've spent a lot of time working on redecorating and reorganizing my home. It's been a lot of fun and definitely much needed. Although I am trying to keep the cost down, doing any home improvements cost money. With that and trying to save for an amazing road trip my husband and I are planning this autumn, we're trying to spend less and save more.
Have you heard of the No-Spend Challenge? This challenge is an easy way to reset your spending habits and introduce yourself to a budget that is practical and works for your family. There's just one simple rule; don't spend money on anything expect necessities (bills, groceries, etc.) I'm kicking off this challenge next week and I'm excited to see how much I save (and a bit scared to see how much I spend!) I'll check back in after the 30 days are up and let you know how it went.
- Gather some friends and have a bonfire in your backyard.
- Look for free community classes or activities to attend.
- Dig out all those unused craft supplies and make something!
- Pick a local organization and volunteer for the day.
- Visit your local library and check out a book.
- Check and see if the museums in your city offer free days and go.

You go girl! That's such a great idea. In college while living in the dorms, I used to take $20 out of the ATM at the beginning of the week and I lived on those $20 for Monday-Friday. Granted, I didn't live in an apartment (where I'm constantly redecorating and reorganizing like you) or make the amount of money I do now, but it was definitely a good life experience to limit myself to just the necessities in life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for encouragement Kim. We'll see how I do. Fingers crossed!

So awesome and such a good challenge! I've been saving up this year in order to attend a floral workshop in Seattle. I've been good at setting money aside to pay for that, but I know I've been spending too much on other things (like clothes, gardening supplies, etc.). So I'm up for joining and reining in my spending. -Katie
ReplyDeleteAwesome Katie! When we recap how Claire's No-Spend Month went, definitely fill us in on how you did.
DeleteGood for you! I feel like everyone should have a spend free month every once in a while. It helps you to feel organized and centered. For a while my husband and I did one spend free week each month... I might should go back to that.

Love the idea of one spend free week a month Elizabeth. Great idea! Might have to work that into our routine.
