We have been admiring local home furnishing brand Maya Mueble and their collection of modern furniture and textiles for a while now. Not only are their products beautifully unique but we absolutely adore their mission. The brother-sister team of Brian and Emily Prendergast founded this socially conscious line in 2011 in hopes of creating sustainable relationships with artisans and provide an opportunity for economic empowerment. They work directly with artisans in Guatemala and El Salvador to deliver one-of-a-kind pieces featuring the traditional techniques of the regions into the homes of consumers around the world. How cool is that!?
Recently we had the opportunity to get our hands on a few pieces and play around with styling them. And we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the newest collection of textiles and pillows! We chose two of our favorite Maya Mueble staples, the Acapulco Chair and the Comoda Chair, and grabbed a haul of throws and pillows to give an extra cozy vibe. We were so impressed with the high quality craftsmanship of each piece and fell head over heels with the way Maya Mueble looks in our homes. In Claire's Living Room...
The blankets and throws are hand made by a family run weaving business in San Sebastian - a small town in El Salvador known for their textiles production. The pillows come from a women's cooperative in Guatemala called Trama Textiles (trama means 'weft' in Spanish). Trama works with over 400 women in 5 regions of the country. It started after their civil war ended and the women needed to make a living. The great thing is the women can work on the weavings at their home and not worry about traveling to earn money- most of these women live in very very remote areas of Guatemala, so being able to earn a living at home is a big deal. Such lovely rooms, Ladies! That Quetzal Pillow is gorgeous, Claire. I love how you styled the the small Comoda Chair, Lauren. The perfect size for a stack of your favorite books. I especially like how these chairs can fold up and lean against the wall when you need a little extra space for things like cocktail parties, and still make a design statement.
