A Fall (Capsule) Wardrobe

FOXTAIL + MOSSThere are about a million various reasons I love fall so so so much. There's some obvious stuff, like the lovely changing of the trees, how the crispness in the air shocks your senses alive, crunching leaves underfoot, and spiked apple cider (duh!). But let's get real here. I love Fall so hard because there's just absolutely nothing like am autumnal wardrobe! Black tights, boots, chunky cable knit sweaters. This is the stuff that seriously sets my heart aflutter. I find myself more inspired standing in front of my closet once I've made the switch from Summer dresses and short shorts to colder weather clothes. Am I alone on this?

Have you heard of seasonal capsule wardrobes? I first heard about this "having less is more" clothing concept here. Then I checked out this lady and her gorgeous blog and now I'm obsessed! Oh, to be a clothing minimalist! I've been sorting through my catastrophe of a closet.  It's been a slow and somewhat grievous process. Isn't it silly the importance we place on articles of clothing? How much nostalgia one t-shirt can hold? But I'm making progress! My attempt to pare down my selection to just 40 items (40!?) is actually not as difficult as I predicted it to be. Because, essentially, I am a creature of habit. And I totally pick favorites. I reach for the same old black sweater and ripped pair of skinny jeans day in and day out. Just like clockwork. I know what I like, what I feel good in, and what works. So, out with the old! And in with the...well, still old but much more organized!

I'll keep you posted as I make more progress and come to some final decisions about my top 40. Are any of you attempting this capsule wardrobe thing? I'd love to hear your thoughts and feelings about a minified closet!

  1. Autumnal wardrobes make my heart skip a beat! You just can't beat chunky sweaters, skirts and boots! Love it! I love your minimal wardrobe challenge. I need to try that out and see how I could do. I definitely err on the side of uniform most days, so maybe it wouldn't be so hard. And I'm trying to pare down on my possessions too, so this would fall under that concept. Good luck! -Katie

I'm doing capsule wardrobe too, over at www.katberries.com and I'm actually surprised at how natural it feels. We are creatures of habit,as you say.
