Holiday Weekend

(from top left to bottom right - All images via Pinterest)

With the holiday weekend here, we only have a couple things on our mind - grilling, swimming, spending time with friends, and of course fireworks. Put down the beef and try a portobello burger. Get super festive and rock a fun american flag bathing suit. Are you hosting a get together? Make a fun green garland to spruce up your table. And of course no fourth of July is complete without sparklers.

Have a happy (and safe) fourth of July weekend everyone!

DIY: Holiday gift wrap ideas

There is maybe only one thing I love more than giving gifts...and that is wrapping them! I’m a firm believer that the prettier a gift is wrapped, the more fun it is to open! Store bought paper is adorable and all but tearing into a present that is uniquely wrapped makes the gift receiver feel so much more special, don’t you think? Below we shared three creative ways we gussied up our gifts this year.

We wrapped our gifts in repurposed paper that we found lying around our homes and studios...a couple of brown paper grocery sacks, last Sunday’s newspaper, and a few vintage maps. Skip traditional bows and ribbons and go for something a little more fun! We opted for Christmas ornaments, sprigs of pine, pom poms, feathers, and painted plastic toy animals. To add a little something extra we stamped a pattern on to the newspaper with acrylic paint.

We loved the way these presents turned out and can’t wait to give them! How will you be wrapping your holiday gifts this year?

SHOP: A Very Etsy Holiday.

This year, my family made a pledge to keep our Holiday gift giving simple. It can be so easy to get wrapped up in the spirit of the Season and go totally overboard with presents.  So we vowed to shop locally and give handmade (or homemade!) gifts.  Not only does it feel good to support independent artists and local businesses but we’re sure to unwrap something absolutely unique.
Claire and I have compiled a list of a truly awesome handmade gifts we found on Etsy (our favorite place to shop). Isn't this a pretty collection? And each item will run you under $50. Now if that doesn’t make you say “Deck the Halls” we don’t know what will!  We hope these gems inspire you to give simply and thoughtfully this year.  Happy gift giving!

MAKE: Holiday Decoration

This week, Lauren and I spent some time decorating our respective homes for the holidays. Traditional holiday decorations leave us feeling super “Christmassy”, but they can be a bit...well...cheesy. Wanting something a bit different this year, we decided to forego your run of the mill plastic mistletoe wreath and opted to make our own rustic wall hanging. This easy to craft decoration is just so lovely and is perfect for apartment dwellers and those with limited space. The best part? We didn’t spend a dime making it!
Use what you have around the house and make it your own! Search your yard or local park and see what you can find (after all, it’s free!). We foraged twigs, pine cones and branches. Looking through our craft supplies, we found clear glass ball ornaments and beautiful white feathers. We designed a layout and then hung each element from our twig using white thread. Attach twine to either end of the twig to make a hook and presto! You have a beautiful holiday wall hanging. Add a string of christmas lights for a bit more festive feel.

Will you be crafting any homemade holiday decorations this season? We’d love for you to share your ideas!
